The design of Markthal incorporates sustainable solutions that reduce resource use. This contributes to a greener future and a smaller ecological footprint.
Avoiding Fossil Fuels
Markthal does not have gas connections for heating. Instead, we utilize geothermal energy for efficient and sustainable heating and cooling. This helps reduce dependency on fossil fuels, which is crucial as fossil fuels and drinking water are becoming increasingly scarce.
Reducing CO2 Emissions
Fossil fuels are a major source of CO2 emissions, especially when it comes to heating and cooling buildings. To counteract global warming, it is vital to reduce these emissions. That’s why the government in the Netherlands decided that from 2020 onwards, only energy-neutral buildings would be constructed. Markthal fully meets this standard, actively contributing to a more sustainable environment.
