Design the Tote of the City!

Rotterdam is bursting with creativity, and this year one design takes center stage. Markthal launches the Tote of the City design competition: the bag that will be carried for an entire season by visitors from every corner of the world. This is your moment to be seen, to let your style travel, and to create a new Rotterdam icon.
How does it work?
You design. The city carries. Submit your design and get the chance to be selected as the official Markthal tote‑bag design.
Design criteria
- Full colour, single colour or black‑and‑white — you choose the style that fits your design.
- Bag colour — you decide the base on which your design will be printed.
- Original work — no existing logos or trademarks.
- Vector file — for razor‑sharp print quality.
- A4 format — the design is submitted at A4 size.
Why participate?
- Publicity — visibility in and beyond Rotterdam.
- Worldwide reach — our visitors come from all continents; the tote is distributed at several moments throughout the year.
- Official tote 2026–2027 — your design becomes the Markthal item for an entire year.
Extra for the top 5 entries
Creativity deserves recognition. The five best submissions receive a Markthal postcard — available for free all year — as a stylish, personal appreciation for designers who stand out.
How to join
- Create your tote design for Markthal.
- Submit your file via the form below, no later than 27 September at 23:59.
- Wait for the results — announced by 30 September.
- On 17 October, the tote will be festively launched and handed out to visitors upon showing a purchase receipt.
